Default C5 Auto people, chime in please...

When my traction control is off and I hit it off the line (a dead stop) it will spin the tires, then it feels like the fuel pump shuts off to let the tires grab. I just recently replaced the fuel pump and it runs better, however it still feels like it is activating when the tires are spinning out of the hole. The traction control activates when I have it turned on and I know it is cutting fuel then, but it also feels like it is doing it when it is off, just not as bad. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this same problem? What could it be?

I've got a 97 and if I nail the gas, TC off, from a dead stop, it will destroy the tires through the frist 3 gears.

The car has some mods, but the traction control should still function the same as stock. Either it is on, or it is off.

Thanks, dave

So this is probably a problem on mine then huh? Mine will get about half way through first, then it is almost like it "bogs" the tires stop spinning, and then it is like the fuel turns back on again.

Maybe it is TM kicking in? I have never had my tires spin for that long of a time, I drive my car to get traction.

Ok, what is the "TM" and what does it do? I want my car to haave traction as well, but if it isn't doing what it is suppose to, then I want the dealership to fix it like they said they did. Also, does your car at least spin the tires for more then halfway through first gear? Mine feels like it is falling on its face.

To ensure that the powertrain survives abuse, TM was built in to pull timing and fuel at strategic points. This sort of sounds like what you are experiencing.

With my 98 A4, if I turn the traction control off and punch it from a dead stop I won't even get a squeek out of the tires...unless I'm sitting in a puddle of oil. You must have the 3.15 gears because 2.73 equipped car actually has two traction control systems...1)The traction control, 2)the most worthless gearset ever dropped into a vehicle in the history of stupid descisions.

So the TM is active even with the traction control turned off? Where was it built into? The car has "mods" in the near future: Exhaust, Stall, Gears, Tune, Blower, and Fuel System. But I want to make sure it runs like it is suppose to before I go throwing money at this thing.

TM can be tuned completely off or reduced. On my first tune, I had TM turned completely off by the tuner. Shifting was a bit harsh at theat point. On my last tune for 3.42 gear install I had it re-adjusted and now it is just right. When you modify the car for headers, Cold air intake, cam whatever, tuning is required and the tuner can also adjust the TM to your specs.

TM is part of the stock PCM calibration and any reputable tuner can adjust or tune it out completely for you. Just be warned that GM engineers did considerable testing on just how much stress you can put on the powertrain before you have a failure. The TM was programmed the way it was for a reason

My car has a tune from Thunder Racing so the TM must be altered. (This is the way I bought it.) I raced it a couple of weeks ago and with street tires, I had to pedal it at around 50mph because it was too out of shape. (12.26 at 114 with a 2.00 60 ft - soft leave-then nailed it)

The one time I did stay "in it" from a dead stop on the street, it smoked the tires for 225 feet and almost put me in the ditch. (Haven't tried that again)

I know there are plenty of faster cars out there, I've just never had a car that would spin the tires so easy or for so long. If you use some self-control, it is a lot of fun.

NO, Cam 240/640, Texas Speed Heads, LS6 intake, headers, built tranny, Yank 3200 convertor, ram air and some other small stuff.

I have an 87 T-Type thst runs 12s with some mods. This vette will kill it. Love the LS1 motor!
