Default Rear Suspension Question,

I have searched and searched. I can not find an answer to my question. Here it goes:

It appears there are two types of rear suspension cradles. The one you see most of the time and the one that has six extra bolt holes on the back side of the cradle. If you were to look under the car from the rear there are 3 tapped holes on each side of the back face to excpet bolts. I saw one picture that OhioC5 posted that showed the cradle I am speeking of. It looked like there were brackets that were for something???? Is it manual vs Auto??? Or some option package.

Anyone know the differance?

Joel

The 97's and 98's had their BPMV/EBTCM module mounted on the rear cradle. Starting in '99 they are all mounted up front. That may be what you're seeing.

Interesting. My 98 does not have the holes you describe or any modules mounted on the rear cradle.

Maybe '98 was a split year. What I do know is that the early C5s had the BPMV/EBTCM modules in the rear.

1998 was a split year .... I remember a post from (I think) either Bill Dearborn or Bill Curlee that had the VIN that was the "cutoff" for the EBCM being mounted in the rear versus the engine compartment.

There are two rear crossmemebers listed in the parts catalog .....

10266823 is listed for 1997 and 1998
10266824 is listed for 1999 thru 2004
