Exhaust Replacement
I have not been here for a while but I have a question.
I was about to go for a drive today when I notice my right side pipes were lower then the left. I reached under and found the Flange connecting to the Muffler pipe broken off and still attached to the Muffler pipe. I did a search and found that this is common. My car is a '99 FRC with a set of ZO6 mufflers. When I bought the Mufflers I also got the whole set of pipes with the Cats I think they were from a 2002 (there are no pre cats).
I eyeballed the system and it looks as if it will bolt in.
My questions are: The center section removal looks pretty straight forward but will it come out as easy as it looks?
Will this section fit or will I have to remove the old one to find out.
Are there gaskets used on the manifold to engine pipe side?
I guess my GM Extended does not cover this.
Thanks in advance!

The front gaskets carry GM part number 12555555 and the rears are 10276792.

The center h-pipe from a 2000-2004 will NOT fit the '97-'99.
The exhaust manifolds on the earlier cars are a different length, so the front of the H-pipe is a slightly different length.
This assumes you don't have headers of course.
You might do a search of some of my earlier posts on this for all the morbid details.
Sorry,

Would removing and welding up the old Flange work? Are there any special welding skills needed? Any idea of cost if I remove the pipe and bring it in?

The gasket part numbers still apply though. As far as welding the broken flange goes, that's what I did to mine when that happened. A welder shouldn't charge more that $10 or so if you brought it to him.
You can check some of my old posts for lots of gory details about the C5 exhaust interchangeability.
As to cut and weld; yeah, should be doable. The '00-04 midpipe is actually a bit longer than the '99 (to accomodate the Pup cats used on the '00-'04 LS1 cars), so you could "probably" cut the pipe, take a bit out, and reweld. However, there is no real advantage in the Z pipes.
Both the z and the '99 have only 2 large cats, and the Z actually has 2 separate "bricks" inside, where the '99 has only one brick; so the '99 might actually flow slightly better!!
In 2002, they bragged about the less-restrictive cats on the Z, but that was in comparison with the '01-'04 cat system, not the old 2-cat system like your '99. If it were mine, I would justweld up the current pipe and sell the Z pipe on the Forum. I haven't heard herein of anyone cutting/welding to match these components, might be a downpipe-flange-angle issue to contend when trying to weld them back up.

Thanks for the Help from everyone on this.
