Default 6 speed to automatic

Are there any threads on how to take out the 6speed and put in an automatic? It would be nice not to have to worry about a missed gear or the flywheel coming up through the floor . I just don't think the tremec 6speeds can handle a 500rwhp vette for even 1 day at the track, nevertheless an entire season. Any comments would be appreciated. thanks! Greg O.

Not sure about the work involved, but I'm planning on doing a full swap the other direction eventually.

From what I understand it's not exactly an easy job, a lot of wiring needs to be done.

Would be cheaper to sell your car and than buy an automatic May I ask why you want to swap

It's a lot of work .... keep in mind a few things ....

* Your PCM has to be replaced or reprogrammed to control the automatic .... and the wiring has to be added for the PCM to tranny connections

* You have to add a tranny cooler to your radiator (or a seperate cooler) plus all the plumbing ....

* Console changes for the different shifter, plus cables for the START key interlock and the shifter to tranny cable.

* Wiring for the START interlock system (since you will no longer have a clutch pedal .....

And more ...... and all to put in a 4L60E that without Torque Management would fall apart as fast as your T-56 (if not sooner).

I'd look into upgrading your current transmission to handle your horseppower ... WAY cheaper and easier .... companies such as RPM offer upgraded componenets for high hosepower Corvettes .....

want to track it. afraid to lose a good stock 6speed. I have a HD clutch and rear. and I have heard of too many stoies about these trannys. Also , I don't think [ I could be wrong ] that RPM [Rodney] will guarentee their tranny when you break it at the track. So was thinking about an automatic. Anyway, sounds like tooooo much a hassle. thanks for everyone's input. Now I can put this idea to rest. Greg O.

It's been a while,I read about a tranny brace that is supposed to help under hard use situations,,I'm sure someone out there should be able to fill in on this piece.

I had my car converted from an M6 to an A4. It's fairly common with the FI guys. There is no looking back.
