Oil leaking from my A/C Compressor or something else?
For the past month or so, I've been seeing drops of what appears to be oil. At first I mistook it to be coolant. It looks like it is coming off the bottom of the A/C compressor. It has a very slight orange tint to it. That being said I've never seen this color oil used in an AC System. I’ve never seen a compressor leak oil like that anyway. Usually it is slung out the front seal, and leaves a very apparent streak in the engine compartment. That is not the case here. Also the top of the compressor is clean, but I really can’t see between the engine block and the side of the compressor. The tensioner is in the way. Besides that the tensioner has apparently gone bad, and the belt was in really bad shape (12 years old I guess). I probably should mention the A/C works fine.
My question is, could there be something leaking on it that I’m just not seeing?
They do leak at the seams in the comp body. I've seen several threads on here turn out to be the comp body leaking. No real fix if that's it. With the labor and expense involved, it's better to replace the whole comp with a new warrantied one. http://trans5.com/docs/C5%20AC%20Com...eplacement.pdf
If it is the comp leaking and you want to try it yourself, here's a DIY link to check out.
Wow leaking at the case joints, that’s a new one on me. Does anyone know if the compressor has a separate oil system in the body? That is separate from the oil in the lines? I say this because I think there is a bolt on the side of the compressor that might suggest somewhere for oil to go.
Also if the leak is from somewhere else, lets say not the compressor, where is a good place to start looking?
