I just bought a 2001 Z06 from Timz06, great car couldn't be happier w/ it, but as he mentioned and I have observed there is a high pitched squeak that is hard to locate. It presents itself when you drive over any bump and sounds like it is almost directley behind the center console / hvac, it sounds metallic in nature and his very high pitched. It is louder inside the vehicle but is audible outside the vehicle as well. If anyone has any ideas on what I am looking for let me know please. Thank you.
Well I finally got so sick of this I did the unthinkable and took it to my local Chevy dealer, I happen to know the head mechanic there and was amazed to find out that they had a set of "pucks" for lifting the vette. Keep in mind this is a small town around 5000 people and I have one of maybe 3 vettes in town 2 of which are c5's and one c6. He said all dealers are provided with these pucks and there is no excuse for not using them. Anyways, long story short, squeak was the exhaust heat shield rubbing on the flywheel cover. Cost me $36 total so it was worth it to take it in.
