Default Car won't start - Code Help Please?

Ok, I went to turn the car on after getting coffee. 80's F air temp, dry and sunny. Started fine at home. Car won't start. Tried 3 or 4 times... just will not turn over. Fuel gague regustered at / near empty the entire them. Finally started, engine cut off in 3 seconds dead.

Then next try, "Reduced Engine Power" / "Reserve Fuel". I know there is at least 2/3 a tank of BP\Amoco 93 Octane fuel, only place I go. Already tried the Techron trick 3 times to fix the float, apparently its not working.

Pulled codes:

SDM: B1001-H, U1000-H, U1016-H, U1040-H
RFA: U1016-H
IPC: U1016-H, U1040-H
TCS: C1255-H
BCM: B0502-H, B0507-H, B2482-H, B2527-H, U1016-H, U1255-H
Radio: B1016-H

None current. Nothing really here from looking up the codes SCREAMs cause of problem? Anyone want to weigh in on WTF? This is the second time I had the "Reduced Engine Power" error, last time was in Feb/March and it was cold and pouring outside. Cleared all codes since then, so these happen since then. Passenger side low beam light out, replacing it this weekend.

My fuel pump whines on the drivers side like a spoiled Hilton sister, and the tanks gurgle when the car is shut off (tank equalization?).

Opened hood, messed around (did nothing)... tried again. Started like a champ. No sign of ever having an issue.

I'm at a loss now.

Hey Boss,

Car problems suck.

All codes are history like you said, but the "U" codes mean there was a loss of communications (i.e. the data line that runs to either the PCM or BCM) were not communicating.

Clear the codes and look at the following.

Could be a bad battery or bad ground. Have you checked your grounds by the battery, headlights, rear drivers side, etc...

Your noisy *** fuel pump is a common problem on earlier vettes as is the float problem.

I would be checking all of my connections. (Also check the according wires that are in your doors.

Start the car and shake them around and see if you get any messages, etc ...

Tony

last night driving to see a movie hit a small bump on the road 2 times, and the DIC blinked out... and then restarted with the corvette message... guagues resettting... etc. Im convinced now that there is a loose connection somewhere. Now to find it is another story!

As stated above, I'd start with the wiring harness in the door jamb. Also check the sticky above for ground locations and cleaning info.

Here's a thread about a different problem, but has good pics of suspect harness and what to do.

I would dig into the service manual, and start troubleshooting what systems have power and no power. Using the wiring diagrams and a multimeter will help you isolate the problem.

Start by getting it to the failed mode. Then start unplugging modules, as you have a ceral data communication issue. When you find the module that the wiring/module that is the problem the gauages will read normal, minus the code for an unplugged module. They all talk to one another in a big loop and you will need to check the door modules, the body control, and dic modules. I would guess that it would be a poor connection in the kick panels to the door control modules, have fixed five that way. unplug connector and check for a loose pin or plug in one of the connectors. you should get a wiring diagram for the ceral data prior to testing.

He most likely DOES NOT have a serial data issue ..... he has an issue with a bad ground .... most likely at G104 under the battery.

If you get a wiring diagram for the "ceral" (try "serial" next time) data network you will discover that the network is NOT a loop .... the computers are connected in a STAR pattern ..... hence the term STAR connector (there are 2 of them) located next to the BCM .... all the computers wiring "meets" in those connectors.

To the OP .... I'd check the ground points G104 for the IPC, and G108 as the EBCM C1255 (assuming your Traction Control/ABS is not setting a warning lamp) is usually fixed by cleaning the grounds.

G104 and G108 are located on the top of the frame rail .... passenger side .... one behind the other. They are very near where the battery NEGATIVE cable grounds to the frame.

Good luck,

Thank you all very much! It will be 97 degees this weekend! I can't wait to spend it under my hood. Mmmmm... I'll report back on how it goes. Here's hoping for a bad ground!

Pull out your battery shroud by poping the platic pins in the cowl and on the fuse box fender panel. Look straight down and you'll see the hidden grounds.

A little sweat equity in the vette this weekend
