Default opinions on cam change

long story short, my old cam is gone and i now have the opportunity to go bigger. but i have a few questions for the cam experts.

old cam: 232/234 112 .598/.593

made 417rwhp with basic bolt ons

my question is i would like to squeeze some extra hp out of the motor but not sacrifice driveability that i had with this old cam

i was looking at the texas speed cams and saw the magik stick 4 and 3 i see that the 4 has a crazy lift on the intake im going to assume. would these cams be noticably worse at idle and low rpm driveabilty than what i had previously? the 4 would have to be on 112lsa and the 3 on 113 is what i was thinking as far as lsa

any input would be great. i know that tunning can fix most driveabliity issues. but i dont want this to be a nightmare for the tuner to tune

Dave, You should also consider the G5X4. I wouldn't worry too much about drivability since it's really all in the tune. My G5X3 112 lsa drives like stock but with a massive lope of course and sick power . Had I known it would be this streetable, I would have went with the G5X4. This is in a A4 by the way

stock 853 heads, stock ls1 intake manifold, 3:73's/SS3600 stall, I put down 370+ on a mustang Dyno. It would be at 400+rwhp on a Dynojet. Since then I added the LS6 manifold. You should put down some sick numbers.

I have the MS4 and no issues with idle - i have very little and i mean little surge around 1500-1800rpm ish area. I had mine installed/tuned by roadrebel.

haven't dyno'd it yet

i assuming the ms4 is the magik stick 4 cam?

also, where you able to use the stock length push rods with that cam? I have stock length hardened ones and dual pat gold springs.

You'd pick up more hp/tq doing the heads and a ported FAST intake as opposed to swapping the cam. Just my .02

Dave bro, I will give you a call sometime today. Let's talk abougt cam size...some of those bigger cams are great, but they dont start making good power until 5k or above...I think one of the things you liked about your old cam was at those specs, you were making power pretty early in the powerband.

man, i am off line for 1 day and miss all this

Dave, just get a monster cam with some 4:10's and you have the best of both worlds

you can guess who the other person was who told me that besides you. Al, as much as I want to go big and go big with the gears. its just not in my near future right now. thanks for putting the idea in my head though

thanks for all your help guys. i went with the texas speed v3 torquer. its supposed to have a better mid range and a couple extra ponies than my old cam. i'll post up results once i get em. i'll be a while

Dave, here are my cam specs, and you've driven my car before. This might help put things into perspective. I consider my cam middle of the road. You want to go bigger anyway, but just to throw it out there...

113 LSA 228/232 .590 .595

My power kicks in at about 3300-3500
