Default Removing catalytic converters?

Is there kit or pipes you can buy that will eliminate the cats? No welding or altering the stock exhaust. Something that can be bolted in and out as needed. It would be for a '03 Z06 my buddy has, I did a search and am aware of all the downsides.
Thanks for any info.

No real benefit to removal of cats, and you'll do harm to the air quality, and you'll get the rotten egg smell. The '02 to '04 Z06 came with a better cat. and without the hp robbing (5hp) 'pup-cats'.

The laws are getting tougher on those who remove their cats. It's illegal and you could get a big fine.

Also you can't sell the car that way. Buy some hi flow cats if it's that big of a concern to ya.

I did a search and am aware of all the downsides, just looking to see if there is a test pipe or off road pipe that can easily replace the cats.

You bet you can man. You can gut them for one. Or you can ask an exhaust shop that's got some looser morals to cut them out and put a pipe between.

They may have "looser morals" ... they're are also gonna have a lighter wallet eventually.

Vendors like Katech are getting nervous about this whole "engine modification" issue, especially tampering with the cats. That's why they are making posts and setting policies like this ....

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2042367

I cut this from the NW Regional EPA web site ......

The motor vehicle tampering provisions of the Clean Air Act apply to everyone. The Clean Air Act prohibits removing or rendering inoperative any emission control device or element of design installed on or in any motor vehicle or engine designed to meet federal standards. The tampering provisions also prohibit the manufacture, installation, sale or offering for sale of any part or component used on any motor vehicle, including motorcycles or motor vehicle engines, where the primary objective is to bypass, defeat, or render inoperative any emission control device, such as the catalytic converter, or element of design of any emission control system. The maximum civil penalty under this section of the Clean Air Act is $25,000 per violation for a manufacturer or dealer, $2,500 for any other person, . This law applies across the U.S. regardless of whether the vehicle is registered in an I/M test area.

The EPA already wacked the guys who were making/selling O2 sims .... it appears they are going after both the catalyst issue and also the issue off "tuned" engine management software.

Posts on these forums aren't very "smart" asking for help removing the cats .... kinda like posting "I want to rob a bank .... are there any sites that will tell me how to do it???"

Personally I think making Prius owners choke on exhaust fumes is worth it

Buy a used H-Pipe in the Parts for sale forum. Gut/remove the cats on the used H-Pipe. That way you always have your original H-Pipe to reinstall when you need to smog test or sell the vehicle. Of course when you have the "no cat" H-Pipe on your car you must never operate it on a public highway......

You're asking for flexibility of an aftermarket full exhaust systems like the LG's. Without any morality lectures, there's nothing I am aware of that will allow you swap in a straight pipe for the cats in an off-road application.

Your best bet barring custom exhaust fab is what was recommended above by RonSS- buy a used H-pipe do what you need to the cats and swap the entire the H-pipe as needed.

Not to mention the Codes you'll throw unless you tune them out. Go buy a Harley if you want to make NOISE.

Yeeeeeeeeeeee Anyway, i guess they are more strict on enforcement of cats there. I went to emmissions in Md. after spending a grand puting cats on and they gave me a two year waiver. cause my FRC sits so low they couldn't get there mirrors under vehicle to check. What a waste of freakin money.

They go for $250 on the auction site!! I have no cats and the smell sucks and I get soot deposits after a good 100 miles of driving on my rear bumper.
