The wife took the 99 automatic out the other day went to pass a car on the road and lost all power almost like a slipping clutch but this is a auto. We have had no issues with it at all. Runs and drives great. Took it in to a mechanic and he didnt even really look at it and said the trans is out I have seen it 100 times that will be 40.00 Does the trans go out that fast and what can I check to see if it is? I just find it odd that there has never been a issue. I can get in it right now start it up it goes right into gear forward and reverse but cant get and power out of it.

Any tranny fluid leaking? Have u checked the fluid?? it could be something as simple as that. or does the fluid smell burnt??? I would drain the fluid and look for any kind of metal shavings. I had the same problem with my all wheel drive turbo syclone and it was the torque converter. anyway, maybe a good mechanic can chime in and help. good luck
Thanks for the reply. I havent got under it to drain anything yet that is the first on my list this weekend I hope. Will update when I do. It just sounds odd that it could go that fast if it is the trans.

I would check and see if any DTC are set ..... the PCM is pretty smart and recognizes problems like missed shifts or excessive slip ....
If you don't know how to display the codes ... go here ....
Post the codes and someone will help in diagnosing them .... post the entire code ... they look like ... P 1234 H (the first letter shows what system the code applies to ... P=Powertrain C=Chassis B=Body and U=Communication) then follwed by 4 numbers and then a "C" or an "H" for Current or History .... but list the History codes....they are important.
