Default Camshaft install pricing (average}

What is the going rate roughly for a cam install in a c5? Anybody had that done recently? I plan on doing the heads and intake but Im not up for tearing the front half of the block and radiator and shroud out to stick that cam in? Any info would be greatly appreciated...thanx in advance

The cam install is simple, if you can do heads you sure as heck can do a cam swap. To answer your question though, labor here in Ohio is $1200.00 everybody is going to say they can get it done for half that (watch) but I looked into it 2-3 years ago on my Trans Am. That was the going rate from a local shop.

Does the $1200 include dyno tuning?

No, that was just labor for cam, springs, etc. Once I got that price I did the swap myself and couldnt believe how easy it was, in the winter too. I was intimated by the LS-1 because I have only worked on older small blocks. It was easier than them, you dont even take the intake off, no distributor to mess with either.

Here in Tx, I got my cam with all the supporting goodies (oil pump, dual valve springs, seals, fluids, t-stat, hardened pushrods, ls2 chain, HP tuners tune) installed a local tuner shop that only works on C5s for right at $2200 out the door.

I did polished LS6 heads and LS6 intake and dynatech longtubes myself a month later for $2500 more.

The heads were a lot of work, but I understand where you are coming from as you won't have to remove all the crap in front of the engine.

The heads were a lot of work, and stress, but I was already doing the intake and headers, so pulling the heads wasn't that much further.

I sold my LS1 intake and LS1 heads to recoup some of the costs. I'd say all in all it cost me about $4000 total. I'm pretty happy with the results. Still on the stock, ticking-time-bomb, 97 clutch though.

Wow, that is the exact same price I was quoted here in Ohio including Dyno tune, no t-stat. i believe I'm gonna go for it as soon as i get the time.

wow you guys are getting raped, might want to check with site sponsors in your area. Even $1200 is high, at the usual $80/hour rate they are saying its a 15 hour job? Thats nonsense...

I have been quoted $700 from 3 different shops.

I was charged $1800 for a Heads, Cam, Springs, Pushrods, Gaskets, Oil pump, differential, tranny, DTE brace, ARP rod bolts(they pulled the entire motor for this), roller rockers, fast 90 intake, 90mm TB, vararam, and UDP all installed.

That is a damn good price....for all you had done.
A cam swap takes 6 to 8 hours...here at the shop I use in CA the hour rate is $90. for 8 hours it would be $720.00 + what's needed for fluids. Tune is included. My .02

A good shop using good parts (comp springs etc) will range about 2500-3k out the door... give or take depending what parts are included and if a tune is include. ECS price is about the same is it is around here in Chi-town.
