So for a few weeks I have been getting a hissing noise that seems to be coming from somewhere just inside the dash. It started after the first few times I put on the A/C this spring. Now, not only do I have a constant hiss, with the A/C on or off, but also when the A/C is on, and I turn my car to the left, it sounds like someone is pouring sand underneath the passenger side of my car. I know that is a weird explanation, but that is exactly what it sounds like. Everytime I have the A/C on and make a left turn, it sounds like I'm running over dirt or sand on the passenger side of my car. Very very weird.
Hi, are there any problems with the system other that the hissing noise. Approximatly where is the noise coming from, left, center , right, top, low etc.

Do you have any codes?
Are all of your mode settings working correctly? Is the air blowing where it should be? The hissing sounds like a vacuum leak. If so, you should be having issues with airflow from the proper vents. As for the "sand" sound, hard to say.

Yeah, the mode settings are all working correctly. The air is blowing where it should be. The hissing sound continues now whether I have the a/c on, or not. It actually stops for a second each time I press any button on the A/C controls, but its only for a second after I push it, than it continues. The hissing noise sounds like its coming from under the hood, very near the dash. The sand noise sounds like its coming from the passenger side, almost sounds like its right underneath the passenger side seat, and like I said, that only happens while turning sharply to the left with the A/C ON.
Hi, this is tough to pin down without symptoms other than a hissing noise. You can have a small vacuum leak and the components still work ok. But here are a few places to look or listen closely to.
1, The Vacuum control assembly is located on the passenger side lower dash area behind the insulator pad.
2, The Mode actuator is located behind the guage cluster area.
3, The Defroster actuator is located in the upper dash behind glove box.
4, The Vacuum source is located on the back of the manifold
5, The Vacuum Tank is located under the battery box down by the wheel well.
It would be a good idea to look at the connection on the back of the manifold, because this has been a problem for some. And take a good look under the battery box for acid damage to lines, or the tank.
The above is assuming that it is a vacuum leak that you are hearing. See if you can pinpoint the sound more precisely and let us know.
Good Luck
