Default Brake job hints

Hi, I'm changing the brake pads on my 01 and I'm stuck. The caliper bolts came out of the drivers side quite easily but I cannot get them to budge on the passenger side... Any thoughts? I've WD40'd them to death but they are on TIGHT. Adding insult to injury I can't get the drivers side rotor off, even with a rubber malet. I can move most of it around but there is one "corner" that refuses to budge (I think it's laughing at me, hard to tell with metal). I didn't have these issues with the front of the car .

Heat them with a torch to warm up the lock tite and they'll come right out.

Good idea, I don't have a torch, I'll have to see if I can borrow one. Do they make small hand torches that run off of propane or something along those lines?

Pick one up at Lowes or Home Depot. You just need the little propane one's about $25 with the starter built into the handle.

Better yet spend 40 and get the one that operates on mapp gas, they get hotter quicker and last longer. And the rear rotor is probably snagged on the parking shoes, you wanna try and pull it off evenly.

I used PB Blaster and let it set for an hour and it came right off. Also, make sure you have all the litte retainer rings removed. Good luck.

Tip: Before re-installing, wire brush the contact surfaces between the rotor and hub and apply a thin coat of anti-seize compound. Do the same on your wheels too where they contact the rotor. You'll be glad you did for next time they come off.

Thanks for all of the replies! The parking brake could be on, I'll have to check . I'll pick up a portable torch at one of the local shops. What is PB blaster? Is it a liquid?

Good idea

And heat is your friend on this one, that and a good sized hammer. Don't be afraid to hit it

Its a brand of penetrating oil like liquid wrench etc, just seems to work the best. Just be careful after spraying with pb blaster and lighting with a torch, make sure it dries up first.
