I have a 98 6speed C5. Im wondering if it would be beneficial to put a Z06 tranny in my car or should I just buy a performance build. Im on a budget so whats should I do. Pros and cons would be helpful on this. Thanks in advance.
Contact rpmtransmission.com, he is our supporting vendor and the best. I think he sells z06 transmission level IV for 1800+ which is little bit beefed up but not radical and pretty much for everyday driving. Also i saw a post someone selling a used stock Z06 trany for 1200 in sale section.
So are these good trannys to use. Im probably gonna have 600+ hp when its all said and done. Will this support it better than a stock t56?
The stock tranny (MM6) and the Z06 tranny (M12) are both T-56 Tremec built transmissions. The only difference is in the gear ratios. Their ability to support horsepower are the same.
If you are going to have that much HP I would stay with the standard C5 gear set up. It has much better gear spacing and you will not get that large gap between 3rd and 4th gears. If you look at what GM did with the C6 Z06 you will see they went back to the standard gear set with that high HP high torque engine while the C6 Z51 uses the C5Z gear set.

Get hold of a later model torque tube assembly (larger driveshaft) and beef up the rear end (hardened output shafts minimum) too. You know the old saying about a chain only being as strong as....well, you get the idea. With 600hp you will be breaking many things if you don't.
