Default Need to do a Compression Check

Any tips here?

Some say do it hot.. But the thought of pulling plugs out of hot motor...

I am just looking for inconsistancy.

Can I do it cold by pulling all the plugs out first? Would that be better to help the motor spin with the least resistance..

What's driving your decision to do a compression test ??

Doh, forgot to mention that.. I Mechanically overreved the motor at the track by accidently grabbing 2nd rather than 4th..

The motor has a tick now.. that seems to be coming from the driver side.. It's louder cold than hot...

Been driving it since and it seems fine other than that..

Have you popped off the valve cover to check the springs and push rods ?

I doubt that a comprssion check will tell you why you're getting a mechanical ticking noise unless you have a bent valve. If you did have a bent valve I would thing that you would be getting a lot of blow by and possibly a mis-fire code.

Did the valve train check.. pulled all the pushrods and rolled em on glass.. checked for broken springs.. all good..

The Motor is is running strong and solid other than that tick.. Makes me think a lifter got fecked...

I am only doing the compression check because a few "Experts" told me to do that first..

I was just going to get a set of Z06 heads and some new lifters and figure the problem has to go away after that.

If that is the case I would just remove all of the spark plugs. Crank it over (3) times on each cylinder and see what you come up with.

A more accurate way would be to do a leak down test to see if the cylinders are leaking indicating a valve or piston ring problem.

Bust since you say it's running good, it's probably a bad lifter.
