Default Help from DIC Code Gurus Please!

Driving around doing errands yesterday. Upon one particular startup the "check engine" light icon came on. However, I didn't have or observe any problems with driveability, performance, etc. Drove it and cycled the ignition a few times today, and the light remained on. Pulled the code from the DIC:

10-PCM P0174H

Can any of you enlighten me as to what this refers to? As always, thanks for your assistance

P0174 Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 2

The passenger side (bank 2) of the engine is running too lean.

Have you modified the engine (headers ??) sometime in the recent past ??? If your engine is stock, you probably have a fuel injector that is partly clogged.

Post if you need more info.

Hi BlackZ06,
Thank you for the reply. In answer to your question, no, no mods in a long while. I did get gas (BP) a little while before this happened though; I wonder if that may have had something to do with it. Perhaps I should toss a bottle of Techron into the tank?

You could certainly try some Techron ... can't hurt.

Extremely unlikely a single tank of gas caused this .... for this DTC to set your average Long Term Fuel Trim is above 23 percent.

Some things to look for ....

* Check vacuum hoses for splits, kinks, and proper connections.
* Check the Heated O2 Sensor (the one immediately after the exhaust valves ... the sensor before the cats) for melted or damaged wiring
* Check for exhaust leaks anywhere forward of the O2 sensor
* Check for vacuum leaks at the intake manifold, throttle body, and injector o-rings.
* Check for air leaks between the MAF and the throttle body (less likely as usually you get a P0171 along with the P0174)
* Check the AIR system for leaks or the shut-off valves not closing
* Check the crankcase ventilation system for leaks

Again, it is the passenger side of the engine so concentrate looking at that side for the problem.

It is possible for a weak or clogged injector to also cause this DTC ... so the Techron may help clear it as it is an injector cleaner.
