Default Fan setting for 160 T-Stat?

I'm curious what you guys with the 160 T-Stat's have your fans set at? What temps have you set them to come on and off, also what speeds do you have them set at?

BTW, I'm seeing 171 degrees at cruising speeds of 55mph. Do you guys think my engine is running to cool? I'm running a 160 T-Stat with 2X bottles of watter wetter and the rest distilled water.

Howdy!

I had this saved as a recommendation from a pretty knowledgeable member here on the forum (don't remember who exactly).

Stock Thermostat:
fan 1 on/off at : 209 / 200
fan 2 on/off at: 219/210

Here are suggested settings

for 180 deg stat:
fan 1 on/off at: 194 / 185
fan 2 on/off at: 204 / 195

for 160 deg stat:
fan 1 on/off at: 184 / 175
fan 2 on/off at: 194 / 185

Here's what I have been using on my C5's and my customer's cars when I do a power tune. With a 160 thermostat and an aggressive tune-up, you need to keep the engine temps in the 180's. So, I set them as follows: Fan 1 On 186, Fan 2 On 188, both off at 182. This brings fan 2 on a few seconds after fan 1, then with both running, the temp gets pulled down to 182 in a few minutes and they both shut off. Give it a try, I think you'll like it.

I really like your settings. I'm going to go with what you said since it makes sense to try to keep the car is the 180's where it probably runs best. Thanks for sharing with me.

You're taking the advice of someeone who obviously doesn't even understand that FAN1 is both fans in LOW speed, and FAN2 is both fans in HIGH speed .......

Use those settings and you will beat your fans to death on a hot day .... they'll be cycling from OFF to LOW to HIGH constantly.

Thanks for letting me know that. I'll probably just go with the setting recommended by Hypertech.

Fan 1 on/off: 184F/175F
Fan 2 on/off: 194F/185F

Here Is Something To Consider When Calibrating Fans For Engine Temp. How Hot Do You Want Your Oil Temp To Run? Many Here Say Oil Should Run 200+ To Evaporate Moisture That Builds Up In The Oil. The Cooler Your Engine Consistenly Runs, The More Condensation/water Will Build Up In Your Oil.

Just A Thought
