Depends on your annual climate... down here in Hell (also known as South Texas) I go with the 160* thermo.

I'm using the 178 because that is what was reccomended to go with the HyperTech programmer. Keep in mind, when you go to a low stat like these, you will not have as much heat for your interior comfort. It will take a long time to warm up the interior and defog/defrost the windshield. I drive mine every day and sometimes it gets pretty cold here in the winter.

Those are the opening settings. The car will run a little hotter than that in warm weather. If you run in the winter I'd keep the stock thermostat and switch over during the warmer months. Also don't forget the fans. You can use a fan switch or a Hypertech to change the fan cut on temperature.

IMHO, because of where you live, I would stay with the stock thermostat during the cold season and switch over to a 172-178 degree unit during the summer...

Go with the 160. Don't be concerned that your car will run too cold, it won't. It gets COLD here, and even when outside air is in the 30's, my coolant temp doesn't go below 169. There is adequate heat to keep my convertible toasty, and the oil temp stays 180 or above, depending on how aggressively I drive it. :D I tried two different 172/178 thermostats and THEY WERE JUNK, THEY DIDN'T WORK. When it was cold out they wouldn't regulate the coolant temp, I was seeing constant temps in the 130's, way too cold for proper operation :nonod: Remember to set your fans to come on earlier to match the thermostat setting for stop and go driving.
