Questions: Cleaning Hurricane Intake Filter
I'm feeling a little dumb, but I have some questions.
1. Do I need to disconnect the battery cable before unplugging the connector at the front of the duct to make sure that I don’t send a voltage spike through something?
2. It looks like everything is pretty well packed into place with no room to move anything even after loosening the hose clamps. Is it necessary to remove the entire shroud to get to the filter without wrecking something?
3. Is there any special precaution that I need to take to prevent damaging air flow sensors or other sensitive electronics in the area?
4. Does anyone know how to get a set of the installation of maintenance instructions for the Hurricane intake system?
The photos show the setup. It was like this when I bought the car.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

(1) You do not have to unplug the MAF or the battery - just leave the cable connected since that plug has a tricky way of coming apart and you have to buy a whole new harness if you mess the plug up. Just leave the MAF in the car as you remove everything else.
(2) Yes, the entire cover shroud must be removed. There will be one screw on either side accessed through the engine compartment and probably 3 more that will have to be removed from underneath the front of the car between the air dam and front bumper (these attach the upper shroud to the lower plenum).
(3) As I recall there is an outside temperature sensor that protrudes through the lower plenum on the passenger side, but I do not thing it is something that you need to remove.
(4) West Coast Corvette has a link for the instructions, but it does not work tonight? Their printed instructions were also very hard to see the photo details last I looked.
The hardest part will be holding up the air filter itself from underneath the shroud cover in order to get the clamp back on (during reassembly) - you need three hands, but I have done it three times by myself. There is no excuse for why they did not design the filter to be removed from the top except that this is the cheap one-piece solution - it turns a 45 minute job into a 2-hour+ job.

I've opened up the scoops already with a cutoff wheel...
This is what they sent in case anyone is looking for the same instructions.
Here are the instructions you had requested
C6 -http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/p-384-c6-hurricane-air-ntake-system.aspx
(Then click on the black circle that says “WCC install instructions)
If anyone needs the pdf file, drop them a note or let me know and I will e-mail it. Best way to contact me is by PM in case I miss the response to the thread.
