Computer Reprogram Or Not With New Exhaust and Xpipe??????
Just finished installation of a new Magnaflow exhaust and there Xpipe. I would like to know if I need to do a Computer Relearn, Reprogram or nothing at all.

Hi dmckay, As this is my very first post since signing up a week or so ago, please forgive the format as I'm not sure I'm doing this right. I was curious as to how you like the Magnaflow exhaust and x-pipe? I'm considering this upgrade as well on my 99 C5 vert but have been told by L.A.P.D that this system is currently unavailable due to ill fitting components and must be re-engineered by Magnaflow before they will once again be available? Did you install yourself and did you run into any issues? I'm also curious about the overall sound level? Do you hear much resonance inside the car? How would you compare it to the Corsa's or other exhaust systems you may have heard?

Hi Bill:
Welcome to the forum. As for the Magnaflow exhaust so far so good. I did the installation myself last Monday and drove to Vegas on Tuesday. The Install took me about 5 hours and that included the Xpipe and everything. My biggest problems where related to getting under the car to do the work the one car garage in the background of my signature is where I did the job (very tight). I used Rhino ramps in the front and then jacked up the rear and put on Jack stands. In order to cut the pipes for the Xpipe install I opted to remove the stock pipe from the headers back (after careful measurements) to make sawing easier. To remove the stock system I had to cut just after the muffler so that I could snake the pipes out. If you had a lift you wouldn't need to cut.
Once I had the Xpipe up and in the rest of the process went very smoothly. Everything just flew together no problem and I did it with no help. The center plate that ties the two pipes together at the back of the car make the alignment a snap. My stock exhaust had the AA mod so there was a lot of popping on deceleration and at idle the car sounded like a motor boat. The magnaflow got rid of the popping and boat burble it nowsounds more like a real V8 muscle car with a throaty rumbling idle. As far as interior resonance the levels I would say are much less than the stocker with the AA mod through the entire speed range and gets quieter inside as speeds go up. I run 3.42 gears and a Yank 3000 TC with Yokohama AVS Sports and at 90 MPH my wife and I can actually carry on a normal conversation. As far as performance I did a lot of reading on the forum and from what I hear there is a substantial increase in HP with magnaflow Xpipe and mufflers I will know more next month when I throw it on the dyno. I haven't heard about the fit problems that LAPD is talking about but I got mine from them, they where the set from there dyno tests (had 300 miles on them) and a new Xpipe. I got them priority Fed Ex 1 day.

Thanks for the quick response and detailed answer to my questions! Sounds like the Magnaflow is working out well for you and based on your response, I'm sure it will for me too. I purchased my vette second hand and the original owner had already installed MidAmerica branded perf exhaust. This system is essentially chambered straight pipes and is way too loud for my taste. It actually rattles the doors at certain speeds/rpm's. Shawn indicated that the Magnaflows should be available in a few weeks, so I'll be looking forward to the mellow sound and cool tips in the near future. Thanks again and happy holidays!
