The pads will ride on the rotor most of the time after their first use.
Make sure that you lube the pins with grease so the do not stick in the caliper. When I did mine I had to sand them lightly to remove a bit of corrosion.
If you suspect an issue, post up some photos and details on the pads and symptoms you have. Someone should be able to give you some insight. There are several issues that can be identified by the way the pads wear.
If you clean and lube everything you should be OK. The GM pads come with new metal bushings that the pads ride on, I like to have these replaced every so often. If you use stock rotors, it may be worth it to replace them with the pads if you are concerned there is a problem.
Be sure to bed in the pads and rotors, otherwise you could be setting your self up for issues.
Also, if you use non-stock pads there may be noise assiciated with them that is normal for those pads.
