Can anyone give me information on how to remove the dash cover on a 1999 coupe? I have a rodent problem and the only way I am going to correct it is to completely clean out the air handling system. I cannot do it from the blower motor and GM tells me it will cost about $800 for them to remove the dash and clean it. Has anyone tried cutting in from the engine compartment?
I took out the dash pad from my '99 to install a new HUD. It took all of 2.5 hours to get it out, hud and reinstall. Its not as hard as you might think. Cutting in from the engine compartment...bad idea in my opinion and you would be asking for trouble.

Whatever you do, DO NOT cut or damage the firewall. If you do it's going to cost you $$$$ thousand of dollars to repair.
MattB, thanks for the link. I read the instructions. Your comment also concerns me. Will removing the dash give me access to the inside of the air handling / AC compartment inside the dash. Or, am I "whistling" in the wind here with this approach? I need to get inside to do a thorough job of cleaning it out so I can breath while driving my car.

As always, thanks for the help.
The air handling box is on the bottom of the tunnel inside the car's dash. There was a post awhile back about someone who had a similar problem and had to pull the whole dash out.
I've had a good chunk of it apart when I did my conversion from an Auto to Six speed and removing the maggie.
It wasn't too bad. Best think to do is to pull out the seat and lay with back down and legs over the back when you're working down there.
Thanks aig1915.
This is going to be an interesting project. I hate those *&%!$#@ critters. Out of four cars, they pick my vette. Well at least they have good taste.
Corvette Enthusiast magazine covered this in a 2-issue article on HUD installation. Lots of detail with color pictures. Unfortunately, none of the pages I kept have dates. Worth tracking down, though.
Thanks aig1915.

If you run into any problems, post up, maybe I can help.
Pulling the dash is easyier than you think. If an idiot like me can pull it off, anyone can do it. You'll need a flathead, 7mm, 10mm, and a T-20. Its cake, really. If you search the forum, theres a step by step posted with pics. I used it. Took me 5 hours start to reinstalled finish the first time. Doing it the second time on my friends car- 2.5 hrs. But PLEASE dont cut that firewall!! Bad news!!
