C1281 C please help
Hi --please help!
I have P1571 H, C 1255 H , and 1281 C
P1572 is ASR desired torque (history)
C1255 EBTCM Internal Malfunction (history)
C1281 Steering Sensor Uncorrelated Malfunction (current)
Need advice please!

Remove pinch bolt, rotate 360 right tighten pinch bolt (below alternator on steering shaft). if 1281 persistent, rotate 720 left. Do not go farther or you will tear up your clockspring.
1571H is unclearable code on early PCMs. There is a TSB about it -- not a problem.
1255H - clear it and see if it returns.
I currently have a 99 conv that I recently acquired from the prior owner that had owned since 2001. It is an auto and has JL4 Active Handling. It has 70k mi.
It is displaying a service veh soon message. This is the only message being displayed. There are no warning lamps or any message related to TCS/ABS/Active Handling disabled.
The following DTC were stored:
C 1255 H,,C 1281 H,,C 1295 H
B 2285 H,,U 1064 H
U 1096 H,,U 1064 H,,U 1016 H
I have since cleared all codes and the only one returning is C 1281 C
In 2001 at 28k mi the prior owner had the car into a dealer for the SVS message.
Their stated diagnosis is DTC C1281 Steering sensor uncorrelated malfunction.
The invoice states 1 sensor reading stuck at 0 degrees and the other normal. The dealer recommended replacement of SWPS which the prior owner declined having performed.
I have a service manual for the car. In reading the section for DTC C1281 I see a flow chart that mentions in addition to SWPS that Yaw sensor or EBTCM may also be involved here especially since DTC C1255 was set.
Due to the $286 list price of the SWPS, I don’t want to just replace w/o confirming it not one of the other parts listed as potential problem. Naturally I don’t have a Tech II tool to run the checks listed in service manual
update
Installed the correct V EBTCM module in place of the M module and my A/H is now functioning. Also the DTC C1281 Steering Wheel Postion Sensor issue is not longer present

Check to connection between the harness and the EBTCM.
That was my problem with the intemittent C1281C.
I have a -98 where the EBTCM is in the back of the car.
Once tightened it is ok.Took me several month to find the problem.......
