hi everyone! im ashley and my boyfriend is in prison and im having a problem with his car and need to know whats wrong and what to buy to fix it.... if you can please help it would be greatly appreciated!!! so the charge system fault message appeared and i have no idea what to do... when i try to start it everything turns on but it doesnt turn over. i was told to get a new battery and that i needed a relay that goes on the passenger side floorboard... they said this might solve the problem and then just jump start it cuz the battery is drained low. anything else i should be looking to replace??? i have no clue about cars and need help. thank you!!!
alright ashely get rid of the jail bird keep the car
I had the same thing, proibably do need a new battery, the one in it is probably low in fluid which caused the charge fault to comeone, the battery is unable to accept the charge, other problems will arrise what year model is it, sometimes when yhou have the battery removed it will lock the stereo and you will be unable to use it until it is unlocked, by a dealer if you have a good dealer, they will give you the code if not ask for it, your going to have to pay them to get the code anyways they owe it to you. Other then that, if that does nto fix it then you have additional problems, alternator, voltage regulator which normally on new acars is a part of the alternator.
Go to a parts store, tell them the year, make should be chevrolet, coupe, convetable, or FRC which means ZO6 in most cases if it is a C5 body style, they can tell you what battery you need, maybe help install it, but other then that its a tow to the dealership which will charge you an arm and leg,, ask around on the forum someone might be local that can help if you have the money to pay for the parts.

Ashley, I had the same problem about a year ago. Corvettes put a lot of draw on a battery and are notorious for tearing them up. If you have or can get a trickle charger, hook it up to the battery, plug it in and let it charge overnight. If you try to jump it it may take 5 or 6 min to get enough of a charge in the battery to start it. It also helps to keep the RPM's up on the car you are using to jump it with. Most of the time even a bad battery will respond to this and allow you to start the car. Prior to heading out to the auto parts store call ahead and find out the level of service they will provide for you.
As soon as you get it started drive it to one of the national auto parts chains and ask them to check out the charging system. When they do this they will be able to determine if it's the battery, alternator, belts or something else. If it's the battery most will install it for you on the spot.
If your not familiar with jump starting a car or hooking up a charger please find a friend who has some experience and ask them to help you. Batteries and chargers are electrical and you can get hurt if you don't know what you are doing.
Good Luck
