Default Intake Help

Below is a picture of the air intake on my car. A friend has suggested I cut two holes below the filters to allow cool air. I'm thinking holes in that shroud might severely decrease engine cooling?

Yes, I know I need to CLEAN !!!!!

Why??? The factory ducting brought cool air in already-why munge it up?

Sure. I would cut a large opening to expose both filters to the outside air, but affix a screen to the shroud.

Considering that after market intakes such as the Callaway Honker and the one made by Breathless Performance call for making cuts in the shroud you should be fine. I agree that screens are probably a good idea though. Good Luck!

You could do that, or just open up the foglight screens. You can cut them by hand, buy aftermarket screens with holes in them, or use the Z06 mesh screens. all have the advantage of taking air higher up, which is cleaner. And they will hold intake air temps within 2 degrees of ambient when you are moving.

I like that idea a lot. Since I don't have fog lights, any problem just removing the plastic screen instead of cutting it?

On second thought I just took a look at it and it appears you need to remove the bumper to remove the fog light screens, or is there a trick I'm missing?

On the bottom of the bumper just at the front of the wheelwell, is a removeable panel with (5) 7mm screws. With it off you should be able to get to the foglight screens.

I agree that the foglights "holes" are the way to go. Although I would not do this as I like a clean engine.

Note that the after market intakes such as the Callaway Honker and the one made by Breathless Performance which call for making cuts in the radiator shroud USE A HOUSING WHICH STILL ALLOWS PRESSURIZED AIR TO FLOW THRU THE RADIATOR, just cutting holes would loose a lot of air going thru the radiator.

Mine has a Hole With a Lid over it, The K/N sticks directly down in the flow of air coming from the car- Like a ram air..

Its made by a company called C/R motorsports I dont know if they still are in buisness but I really do like the fact its drawing cold air, from right infront of the radiatior, and its being rammed into it.
