How do you know if your motor has engine knock from rods a main barring or if it is just valve train noise

Valve train noise will sound like a faint typewriter. A rod noise sounds like tapping a wooden table with your knuckle.
I have the cold start piston slap which is considers normal. It goes away when warmed up.

the car has a large cam long tubes with no cats and a ghl cat back it loud. but what i hear is a tapping at idle not very load you really have to listen for it and some rattle noise when you rev the car up drained oil ran a magnet through the rag the oil was drained on and could not find any metal at all but the rattle is getting loader and you still have to listen for the tapping.

Any specs on the cam? May be too large for the stock lifters/rods.

The cam could be wearing out that stock valvetrain.

has after market heads with springs good to .650 lift and aftermarket push rods. Also noise is only preasent when the engine is warm not on start up.

Good, then you have beefed up the valvetrain. Some ticking will be normal.
How's the oil pressure at idle and at 2000-2500 rpms? (hot of course)

I really think you're fine. Oil pressure is good. Unless it really starts to get loud or you get some popping or misfiring, you're good to go.
