Default What's wrong ??

OK, here’s the deal, I have a 99 C5 auto with only a few mods, Vararam, Ported TB (ported by me), descreened MAF and several months ago I did a 13.017 @ 107.20. It was pretty cool when I did that time, IDK 40 or 50 something.

So I decide that I want to be in the 12’s so I get some shortie headers and I put them on. Well since my 13.017 @ 107.20 it has gotten warmer, in the high 80’s I’d say and I go to the drags and the best I can do is a 13.4 something (IDK what exactly) WITH headers.

What’s wrong ??

I look at the headers now and they are noticeable Bluer since my 13.4 runs.

I’m thinking a tune ??

Thanks

It's proably in the tune. IF you're not planning on doing any other major mods anytime soon, you need to take it to get a good tune (If you are, you should proably wait since tunes are expensive)
The warmer weather will hurt times, but since you modified the air flow both in and out of the engine, you need the VEs readjusted so it will not go rich at WOT
With vararam and shortys, even with the 2.73s you should definity crack into the 12s

Thanks, I would have thought it was lean at WOT rather than rich ... I have the 3.15 gears.

The weather can be a huge factor. BTW, what was your 60 ft times when you ran the 13.01 and the 13.4? Your launches could be the big difference. Did you constantly run 13.01,.02, .03's or was the 13.01 your best of all your runs? Just somethin else to look at

The reason you can see rich at WOT after installing mods that improve the airflow, is that the computer will compensate by changeing the fuel trims to get back to stoch (14.6-1) It will do this by adding fuel. The problem is that the PE (power enrichment) values have not been changed, thus they add the same amount of fuel to a now "richer" mixture, thus making your engine run rich at WOT.
My wife's car was running 12.8-1 at WOT. We added headers and x-pipe and let it "recalabrate" and it moved to 12.2-1. Not critical, but a little rich for max power on a NA car.

You have two things going against you. First of all, the warmer weather will definetely make you run a little slower. Secondly, unfortunately, shorty headers will give a very minimal hp increase, if any, especially without getting your car retuned.
