I know this has been covered numerous times. What type of batt would be best. I want one of the dry cell types. I remember one was more recommended that the other. Mine has finally passed away!

Hi, There is no "Dry Cell", battery for cars yet except the Lithion Ion used in the Hybrids. You are probably thinking about the AGM type such as the Optima Red or Yellow type. You are in a Hot Climate so you want a battery made for and well suited for a hot climate. Basically any battery will suffice, but there are choices that are somewhat better from some points of view.
Below are the considerations I believe should be considered in your choice. 1, Adequate Capacity
2, Sealed so as not to outgas and create corosion.
3, Fits Right
4, Good Warranty.
5, Fresh Date of Manufacture, and fully charged
6, Good Dealer Support in case of the rare defect.
7, If you are in a hot climate, get a hot climate model.
There are many that fit the above criteria, but I can not emphasize enough, if the car sits more than a few days at a time, get and use a proper battery maintainer, that is able to handle whatever battery you get.
As I've said before in many posts my choice when I had to replace the battery in my 03 was an AC Delco Sealed type. It came with a 50 month free replacement, and up to 7 yrs remainder pro rated. I've had it a year now and no problems. Others will say different and have their reasons.
Good Luck

Went to my local A Zone and got a red top Optima. It was the battery that came up on the search for the '01 C5. Came with a 7 year warrenty. I really appreciate the advice & correction in my terminology I am gonna do a Batt Tender as well!
The Exide Orbital is another option in AGM batteries. I have them in four of my vehicles and have had excellent service from them. The oldest is in the C5 and it's at least 5 years old.
I have always had good service from Delco's in the past, but have had two Delco, side terminal batteries leak on me in recent years. One in our C4 and one in the C5. Both were a mess to clean up, but needless to say, the C5 could have been very expensive had I not caught it in time.

Same here. When I was looking I found the Exide Orbital to be a good AGM battery at a reasonable price. I paid $129 at NTB about 2 years ago.
If you don't daily drive your C5 daily, get a battery maintainer. I use it anytime my car sits for longer than 3 days.
Especially with Red Tops, they loose charge easily and it hurts the battery if it gets drained to the point of needing a jump-start or charging to start.
