oil pressure
the oil pressure on my '98 has dropped from about 38psi at operating temp. down to about 29psi. the oil life monitor is on 18%. could the oil be breaking down or something else causing it. what is the normal operating psi anyways?

Check your oil level first. Add if needed. I know several people who have reported switching to a AC Delco Ultraguard oil filter and the oil pressure jumps 10+psi. How many miles do you have beteween oil changes?

When I had my 99 A4, my idle was around 30psi and after some running would drop to around 20psi and sometimes would go as low as 15psi. Dealership said this was normal. :confused: I never had a problem.

Is you oil QUANTITY low?????????............@18%, you may be down a couple of quarts......
My personal opinion, at idle...........a 5.7 should never go below 30psi...........
Anything under 25, Houston, you got a problem..........again, IMHO. :rolleyes:

Also running normal 10w30 as opposed to the recommended synthetic 5w30 may get you a little more psi.

My '98's pressure will drop to 20psi when idling if the oil temp is over 225 or so. When driving it stays above 40 psi. Dealer says 20psi is within specs, so there is nothing they can do about it.
