I bought a MS4 cam from a user online and im putting in it with my stock 241 heads and valvetrain (becides prc dual spring kit). I was wondering if anyone has the same setup and what length pushrods you used.
Thanks
Robert
The base circle dia of your MS4 cam is smaller than the stock cam lobe, so yes, the perfect pushrod length does change.
7.425" would probably be best with stock heads/gasket.
Bought a MS4 from TSP and the entire kit including pushrods. It came with 7.400 length. I didn't have excessive preload or any issues with using the 7.400" pushrods that came with the kit.
Almost every tuner supplies 7.400" pushrods with every cam kit they sell. They feel it is a "one size fits all" deal.
Then there are also the many threads posted about the "sewing machine sound", and most everyone, including those tuners, call it "normal", and attribute the noise to other things like steeper lobe ramp rate, dual springs, etc. .
If you accept that sort of "it's normal - don't worry about it" mentality...then you have lots more you need to learn before further modifying your engine.
btw, how would too short of pushrod cause excess preload?

Right, I got that bass ackwards. I will agree that the proper thing to do us use a pushrod length checker, get on the base circle of the cam, tighten the rocker and then the pushrod to 0 lash, remove it and add roughly .050". I am just saying for those who don't wish to do that, I had no issues whatsoever with noises and I had roughly .050" preload. I didn't however measure it because I didn't have my pushrod length checker at the time and was comfortable with the install.
