It seems I am developing some electrical problems. I get a Service Engine Soon every time I start the car. The code indicates that the left alternator terminal has a problem. I've checked if for corrosion, and found none, but cleaned it anyway. Warning light came still came on. Then my battery started to go. Had it checked it was fine. Yesterday the same light comes on, but now the Service Column Lock warning comes up as well. But the wheel does not lock.
I'm thinking maybe alternator no putting out enough. I have a spare I got off the forum last year, and seem to recall something about a later alternator not suited for a 1999. It is a GM Valeo, made in Mexico, p/n 10353441. If I have to reflash the PCM to accomodate this unit, what exactly needs to be done.
check the ground cable too. The big one on the back of the head, passenger side. You can get to it from under the car. Next, if that doesn't do anything, have your alternator checked. Autozone does it for free. Also, check the little connector on your alt. Take it off, inspect and spray with wd40.
btw.. batteries don't "start to go" and then revive themselves. If it's going (and they go quickly when they go) then replace it.
Benny,
If you have the Valeo 110 amp alternator on your frc, that is what you want to replace it with,if it has gone bad for sure.
I would check ALL connections, including your starter connection as this was my problem at one time.My car actually quit running over it.
If it turns out you need one,you can't get a new one so a used one will have to due, IF you can find one.
