I have a 2003 6 speed and out of nowhere yesterday when the car is put in reverse everything feels right but when you slip the clutch - nothing no gear sounds nothing! Forward gears are fine,
Always do a shifter alignment first as its quick and easy to do solving most issues right away. Past that, if its still jumping out of reverse or not going into reverse after the shifter alignment means its time for a trip to have the tranny pulled. Did anything happen just before this showed up? Yes, if its not going into reverse at all, a lockout could be happening in which case, I'm thinking a connector fell off the transmission, but truly I'm not sure.
Nothing happened before hand. Drove and parked. Got in the car and in slides intothe reverse location fine and you are expecting nothing when I let out the clutch is is like it is in neutral. What is shifter alainment?
Use the search function as there are posts with the alignment with pictures. I can tell you how to do it, but the pictures are better. Remove the center console to get to the shifter. Remove the cover screws from the shift itself and you will find the shifter arm and mechanism. On the front of it, you will see a pin hanging in a stored position. The shifter needs to be in neutral and then push this pin out of the stored position all the way down till the shifter is locked and no longer moves. Make sure its seated all the way. Loosen the transmission shaft at the shifter itself with the torx screw. You will possibly see the shaft move. Tighten it back up, pull the pin "all the way" back into its stored position. Put the car back together. Drive it. If you still have a problem, then its time to head for a mechanic.
Has it been a one time thing or is it a regular occurring thing now? I had a similar problem getting back into first after sitting at a light. Would feel like it went into position but nothing when you let out the clutch. I did 2 things,,1.I did the "Ranger flush of the clutch master cylinder. 2.I drained and refilled the transmission (I used Royal Purple Syncro Max) Immediate improvement,,and after more driving it got even better. Now no problems at all !! Worth a try ,,doesn't cost much,,and pretty easy to do!!
It is in the shop. They said something is seriously wrong in the tranny, because it is making a bad rattling sound that I noticed when I rolled the windows up! I hope is it covered by the extended warrenty!
