Default Whistling turn signals?

Ok, I agree that this is strange. But a friend bought my C5 a couple years ago and in a conversation Sunday he says that he has been having intermitten problems with his turn signals. He has checked all the lights and they are fine but sometimes when he turns on the turn signal he gets a whistling sound.

I had done a number of mods to the car including a shift light, Blackwing filter, etc. but I can't figure out what might be causing a whistling sound associated with a turn signal. Apparently it only happens when the signal is put on...so it doesn't seem to be something associated with an air filter or something. He was wondering if it had something to do with a computer mixup or something.

He also has a "check tire pressure system" light or whatever it says for when you need to check the tire pressure monitoring system but I don't see where that would cause a whistling sound.

So maybe this will be a challenge to those of you with extensive experience on the C5. If not, he will have to take it to a dealer (ugh...not many good Corvette dealers in South Dakota!)

Tell him he's low on "blinker fluid" .... he needs to go to this site .... select MAINTENANCE from the menu on the left and the fluid will be listed along with other important maintenance items like a can of elbow grease, and cans of seasonal air for his tires. These guys carry other important but often hard to find items like muffler bearings and heavy duty tire beads. I just recently installed the piston return springs that they offer and I tell you the engine has never run like this before ......

Seriously .... though ...... can he give you some idea of where the sound is coming from .... inside the car .... outside ???? If inside .... does it sound like it is coming from inside the dashboard ???? Just a SWAG I'd lean toward the hazard flasher unit ..... but that is STRICTLT a SWAG.

Very funny site. ....I agree however with BlackZ06 on his SWAG. What your friend is calling a whistle, may actually be the turn signal relay high pitch buzzing.

I get the same thing - if he doens't realize how noisy the fuel pump is he may never realize that what he's hearing is the draw from the turn signal is just enough to change the pitch of the noise the fuel pump makes...

He probably has RPO : WTS47(whistling turn signal) option. The turn signals whistle to let vision impaired people know you are turning.

Lucky,

I think you have the wrong RPO number ......

WTS47 is the option where the car whistles "Dixie" when the turn signals are on ..... WTS46 is the "standard" whistle .....

Indeed. If I'm not mistaken, the WTS47 was only available as a dealer installed option South of the Mason-Dixon line.

Thanks for the two serious suggestions.

The other ones are funny and welcome as well but this is actually a serious thread. Since I haven't heard the sound I have no idea if it's really a whistle or not but that's how he described it. These cars are so complicated that I have no idea how some things may affect the operation of others.

I'll pass along the suggestions.
