Just installed a new ceramic 1/4 tunnel plate and I can't keep the O2 sensor from hitting it. I took the exhaust back off and hit the spot with a grinder , it helped, but it still hits occasionally. Other than drilling a hole in the tunnel plate anybody have a suggestion or fix ?

I remember when I had my stock system, it was close to the tunnel plate but I think I could of gotten a 1/4 plate in there. You might have to fool around with the springs/bolts in the back end portion to lower the exhaust a bit. Some washers might be in order if you fairly close which it sounds like you are. I wouldn't be cutting a hole if it was a tunnel plate that I just bought. Just look for other options. Pictures speak a thousand words though.

A picture would be very helpful. Can't picture from memory where the interference would be. Since you had to take the exhaust off for the install maybe something isn't aligned properly?

Sounds like GM didn't plan on using a 1/4" tunnel plate, huh?
Sorry no camera , spent all my money on the Vette !!! I dont think a picture would show much other than the top of the o2 sensor being real close to the tunnel plate. Im going to try and add some washers to the spring hanger in the back and slip a few washers between the front bracket and the bellhousing this weekend.
this is a pic of my o2s before we tinkered with them. My advice is install the channel plate and then put together the entire exhaust but keep all the nuts/blots slightly loose. Try turning the pipe with the o2 down away from the channel plate. When you get the o2s in the right spot tighten everything up. It took two guys but thats what we did. If this doesnt work you might have to drill a hole like mentioned above. Well good luck and let me know what happens!
Problem fixed !!! I installed a washer about the size of a quater between the front exhaust bracket where it mounts to the bellhousing. Took out the bolts used a pry bar on the exhaust pipe to get a gap between mount and bellhousing , slipped in the washer and bolted back up. I now have about 1/2 inch space between the 02 sensor and tunnel plate .
