Default Please help with a cam only ques.......

Ok.i want to get to the bottom of this ques.I have an 01 6-speed.My mods are breathless performance air bridge with ram air box, ported throttle body,AR headers catted, corsa indys. Now im going to get a cam package put in this car this fall or this spring. Now,i want to go with a real nice looping sound cam.I heard some mild cams before, and you can tell they are cammed alittle bit but not much different then stock.Dont want that. What im trying to figure out is,is my take off from like 0 to 60 going to be faster.I heard the bigger cam you have, you get more power from top end not low end.Is this true. Now does this mean i will lose power on the low end or will it be just as fast on take off as it is now.I love the way it feels right now on the take off.Im hoping this will not change if i put a big cam in it.The main reason i want a big cam is i love the way they sound at idle. That is more of the reason why i want a big cam,But if its going to slow the car down from what it is now, then im going have to think of a different route.Give me some good news guys.....Thanks

Compromises. The best bet for a street car is somewhere in the middle. Cams with big duration (lumpy idle, etc.) will move the power band up the curve and are usually suited to drag racing. You will lose some low end torque but gain quite a bit up top. If you like to wind out the gears then this may be a good fit. However, most street cars are best suited with a less aggresive cam since you spend most of the time in the lower RPM band and drivability is better. Intake durations in the 220s on a 114 LSA would be considered good street cams.

Top end does not mean at 120 mph. It does mean at the top end of EACH gear.

A 224/224 cam is somewhat in the middle just so you know.
I have a 233/239 cam

A solid middle of the playing field cam would be the G5X1. It has a 228/232 duration and is available in a 112 and 114 LSA. It provides a good overlap sound and won't sacrifice as much low end response.
