OK tech guys need some experienced opinions. I got a high 9 second car that is very street legal. Drive it all over. Get my power from D1 blower. My tune has my fans coming on at 180 and both at 186. Last few weeks car has begun to run about 10 degreesw hotter than normal (normal for me is 200-203 on 90 + day.) Now at idle or at speed which has my rpm under 1500 it begins to build and after some time with city driving I get over 220 and its climbing fast.. Then I have to put the car in neutral and get the rpm up over 1500 for a short time and temp comes down. I'm thinking my water pump has lost alot of its effeciency at 800-1500rpm. Need to replace it...that's my thoughts...what does everybody else say??
If thats it , I'm going with electric pump that will run much faster at idle and i can also use it to cool doen the car when racing with engine off and auxerilly power...Please give me your thoughts...Thanks-
First thing I'd check is whether you have debris that has gotten into the A/C condensor/radiator area.
The C5 is a "bottom breather" ... it draws air in from under the car to cool the radiator .... which means that debris on the road can get drawn up into the cooling system quite easily. I found Grey Davis stuck in my cooling system a few weeks after the Governator beat him .... you might find a paper bag from MickeyD or a plastic bag from your local supermarket in there .....
If you're convinced you have good airflow through the radiator, then the water pump and/or the thermostat become the next suspects.
If you have a 9 second car ..... I suspect you have the smarts to figure things out from here ......
I had the same problem 2 weeks ago. I replaced the 'stat just to be safe but I'm pretty sure it was the condensor and radiator. Looked clean from below but I pulled the radiator out and you could hardly look through the fins. Even after 3 cycles of high air pressure nozzle, high pressure water from my hose, and hand picking of crap it was still a little dirty. But much better than when I pulled it out. I was seeing temps of 237 on the highway and 244 sitting at lights. Now it rarely gets over 200.
