Default Help!! advice needed cam content

Okay i am very close to buying a very nice coupe from a forum member, but i have a few questions.

the car has a comp cam and the specs are 224/230 .581/.592 114lsa

i am going to start modding as soon as i get the car but i dont know what to do about mods. this car will be a DD which will see some spirited driving along with some the ocasional 1/4 mile trip. Gas mileage isnt a huge concern but it is definitely in the back of my mind.

i am definitely going to do a 373 or a 410 gear with qtp cutouts; along with a set of heads and headers, and possibly a fast 90.

I may change the cam to a g5x3. But if i keep the same cam which set of heads and headers will compliment this cam the best? I was thinking LG Long Tube Pros and a set of AFR 205 cc heads.

my goal is to get into the low to mid 11's at the strip.

That's a very reasonable cam for a built dd... particularly if it has any ground-in advance. You didn't mention a torque converter in your plans, so I'm assuming this is a stick? If so, I think you're on the right track. You have picked some good components that complement each other well. Go for it!

P.S. Don't forget to budget for some tires and suspension work. All the power in the world is ng if you can't lay it down.

i really want a big cam though with maybe like a 112 lsa. i have heard england green's whiplash cam is awesome but not too sure.

would the fast 90/90 or a ported ls6 with an ls2 throttle body be good idea with the setup i am thinking about? i have heard it isnt right for all aps.

You don't say what your transmission is, or what your present gears are. As far as cam choice, your present cam is a pretty good DD/strip cam, and a X-3 won't make a huge difference. If you've got a 6M, and 342s, I'd get heads next. Mill them to yield about 11-1 CR, and with decent traction, your goals should be met, or exceeded. If you have an A4, or 273s, then a converter, and gears will get you close doing nothing else.

First, fill out your profile. We don't know where you race , your age, or anything about your ride. All that would help.

Second, you say its a daily driver and you want to run low 11's. Just be aware anything below 11.50 will require a roll cage to be legal at any NHRA track.

The reason we need this info is that you can run a second faster living in Texas than if you are running in Denver. The Heads/Intake combo alone will run you 4K in parts alone. You may not need all the mods you talk about to reach your goal. Give us more info.

Out of the question for a dd unless you have a stick... more information please.

You heard right. I don't believe a 90mm will buy you much with stock cubes. Also, an LS2 tb will not bolt up to an LS6 manifold.

profile will be filled out shortly. i actually live in nc and the car is a m6. the car will not see too much track time but will occasionaly. I actually will be using my m3 for most of my driving but i will probably take the vette out at least every other day.

i was actually thinking of building the motor and using some of the giggle gas but i really want to stay away from that.

would building a biger cube motor be a better choice for my needs? i really would like to get everything done for around 10k or less.

For a 10k budget, I'd just get a power adder of choice, and clutch/trans brace/hardened shaft/sticky tires, and go for broke. Small amount of boost will exceed your goals, and preserve your stock block for some time. Future upgrade would include a forged shortblock (around 2-5k depending on components/displacement), and then raise the boost level.

That cam, cold air intake, good clutch/output shafts/brace, long tubes, drag radials, and your there! Your looking at 10's with F.I. and a required roll bar for the track.
Good luck on your choices, with $10 you can do a number of things.

the only problem with FI is i know i will not be able to stop modding. All of my money will go into the car, which is exactly what happened with my first m3.

on that note, is there anyone close to charlotte nc that is any good with metal?
