Default more newbie questions

1. When im not moving and the car is idling, the lights (dash and exterior) will dim every 4 seconds without fail. I see this on the voltmeter as well. I've tried turning off/on the stereo and A/C, but to no avail. Is this an alternator or battery thing? Im also getting some weird belt related noises, could be slipping?

2. What is a good place in Colorado Springs to have it looked at?

3. My e-brake only locks up when the car goes backwards, but is worthless going forwards, do I need new shoes for it? (I have tried doing the three-pump adjust trick, but no luck).

thanks for all the help

1. Don't worry about it, they all do that. Mine has done it since I got it 2.5 yrs ago, no problems. Something is cycling on/off that pulls lots of current, might be the fans or something, I've never really tried to figure out what is doing it but it hasn't hurt anything.
2. Don't know anything about Colo. Springs except they closed the Tesla Museum!
3. E-brake on C5s are all poor, almost don't work going forward but work a little better in reverse. I saw an adjustment procedure on here someplace but you gotta take everything apart. No worries, you won't need them!

If you are hearing the belt squeal, then the tensioner needs to be looked at or the belt is worn out. As for the parking brakes, they are easy to fix, but you go back to old school to do it. The parking brakes are shoes and a drum. Simply pull the wheel and rotor off. Manually adjust the shoes with the old-style adjuster till the rotor will just barely go back on. Do both wheels the same. Normally there would be an adjuster hole/slot there but I don't remember seeing one on the C-5 at least the '99's.

My car does the same thing. I just attributed to a finicky GM electrical system. Every C5 I have driven/ridden in does the same thing.

As far as the parking brake goes, it's almost worthless. Just park it in gear (make sure it is in all the way) if you have a manual, 1st or reverse, it won't move.
