2000 Vette Getting Hot

I have a 2000 Vette. During this Midwest summer heat the car is getting hot when driving in city traffic or sitting at a light. I am talking 240 to to 253 degrees. Once I get up to highway speeds the temp drops back to 190 to 210 degrees. I am suspecting thermostat? Any other ideas?

I assume you mean the coolent temps and not oil. Did you check to make sure there is nothing stuck in front of the radiator? Are the fans coming on?

Fans were on and the radiator was clean. Yes Coolant temp.

Aside from the thermostat, its most likely a dirty radiator. Even though the radiator may look clean, tons of dirt accumulates in the vanes that need to be blown out.

My HP Tuner is set up for all 2000 C5s, If you were in Tampa, Id change your fan setting after you changed thermostats

It's not the thermostat. If it's stuck closed, you'll get hot at all speeds because the water is not circulating through the radiator. Check your radiators again.
