Its not a LS6 MAF, they were used on all Vettes. The 85mm MAF is called the 5 wire MAF because it has the Intake Air Temp sensor built into it, the older versio only had three wires and a seperate IAT. You would need a wiring harness, a new air bridge because the old one will not attach to the larger MAF, and lastly you would need a tune. It will not run well without a tune.
To really see a benefit you will want an '01+ air bridge, 90mm throttlebody, 90mm intake, and a filter with a 85mm+ outlet. The intake tract will only flow as much as the smallest restriction, in your case the 78mm throttlebody. Add to that on a stock car you would not see any real power gains with this setup. You will also need a tune to set the MAF table for the new sensor, otherwise it will not run correctly.
The only real benefit to the swap on a stock car would come from the relocation of the IAT sensor. The '97-00 IAT's location in the air bridge causes it to heat soak from the radiator. This causes the PCM to see false heat in the incoming air charge and pull timing. I noticed a nice drop in idle air temps with the 5 wire MAF. Probably not worth the hassle for this benefit.
Alright thanks for all the input, I just installed the vararam intake and thought I could try and pickup some more gains as far as the intake goes on these cars. But thanks for the info.
