Default Tires please help

I hate to say it but money is tight. Need tires (stock) for my 02. How low can I go? Any info on Sumitomo, BFG g force, Continental, Avon etc...
I have experience with Goodyear (came with car) seemed ok but pricey. Kumho Ecsta MX doesn't seem to hold the road as well but for the money their ok
Please help!!!!

oh yes to run flat or not to run flat

Ive run through allot of tires in my time and many of my decisions were based on price cuz lets face it...tires aint cheap. I bought my first set of Michelin PS2's and Im sold. I thought it was crap talk but now I know and Im pushing some hp through them. They handle very well and grip very nice...the ride is good too. My .02

THere are a number of acceptable tire choices for a budget. Granted they WON'T be the Michelin Pilots, but unless you plan to really push your car to its limits, I personally can't justify buying the absolute best tire at any cost. But everyone evaluates it differently... it's all up to you.

Now, as far as cheaper tires; you can choose from the Wide Ovals, Vredesteins (which I have and LOVE), and Toyo T1R's, to name a few. I've seen all of these praised here on the forum, especially the Vred's. I believe any of these tires can be had for ~$700 per set; maybe less. There are lots of others, as well... but these were the three I considered before making my choice.

Vredesteins don't come in stock C5 wheel sizes.

I just put a set of 4 Kumho Ecsta MX RF on my car. What a differents in ride and handling from the Goodyear tires. I had mine out the door for just under a grand. To me I rather be safe than sorry.

I've run through two sets of Avon TechM500s on the C5 and was very happy. Tire Rack is the only place I know of that carries them. They're a bit heavy and get noisy in the second half of their treadlife, but I've had a lot of tires brands and these are the best value I've found.

If you're in quick need and in a monetary bind you might want to check out the Parts board.

Not really. My experience with the Sumitomo HTRZ III's has been excellent for a daily driven and H/C upgraded C5. These are currently on the vehicle with well beyond 10K miles and HPDE track events. Couldn't ask more of any tire. Remember, these tires are classified as a summer tire so one must be mindful of traction in lower ambient temperatures until they get some heat in the tread. Just my opinon...

I am glad to hear people like the Sumitomos. I was all set to put them on my car until I read the tire site reviews.

It seemed like EVERYONE liked the Sumitomos EXCEPT the two vette reviewers. I wasn't sure if the tires made in the stock vette size were a bad batch, or the posters were used to more expensive tires.

With three positive CF reviews, I feel more confident in buying them.

I'm on my second set of Kumho Ecsta Run Flats. The first set served me well for about 30k miles. I have no experience with any other brand. My decision to buy Kumhos is that they are, IMHO, very price-worthy.

Regards, GRT

Since you do not say your car is a Z06, I assume it is not. You might want to fill out your profile so members can help more easily.
I used to be paranoid about having non-runflat tires, but luckily, I have not been stranded anywhere, so it is no big deal.
If it were a Z06, I would say stay with the tires that came on the car, GYSC.
