Default HID Fog Light Question

For those of you who have installed HID fog lights, did you use the factory wiring? If so, did you have to use a bigger fuse? Or did you install a relay?

When I put mine in, one hid fog light worked fine but when I put the other one in I blew my 10amp fuse right away (repeatedly, doh). I bumped the fuse to a 15amp and it seems to hold its own but when the lights come on, initially they are really bright then they dim a little and stay at that level. They are still pretty bright on the street but I'm wondering if I need to do something else. I talked to the (ebay) vendor and he says I need to run a 20amp fuse or else buy his relay harness.

I wasn't sure what others had done. I wondered if 20amps might be a bit much for the factory wiring. I have HID headlight bulbs to install next and am also wondering if a relay harness will be needed for them.

I highly recommend rewiring them! take a look at your factory fog light wires...they are TINY! probably 22awg or smaller. you really need bigger wires. I have a 20A fused source, 30A relay and 16awg wires running to my fog lights. if you get the small spade connectors (found at advance auto etc) they will fit right around the pins in the male connector of your fog light ballasts. I think the 10A fuse on the factory fog light wiring is too large for the size of the wire to begin with, I would never put 20A on that circuit! run new wires, the HIDs will run much better.

I'm using the factory 18awg wires on the high and low beams with HID's so far no problems, but I want to upgrade the wiring on those as well.
