I think mine may be about dead. I was up in Des moines today at the car show and when I started it to go home I got the service column lock message. My car will still run fine since I have the fuel cutout tuned out but something has to be wrong. I bought mine from Corvettes of houston about 4 years ago. Do these things usually go bad after several years?
I have never heard of one going bad. Some people say they don't work on all early year C5s. Yours is a 1997.
It has worked on my 1998 for several years.
IF you have no fuel cutoff programed and the column lock out and unconnected, you should be okay even with the message.
Have you tried pulling fuse to resynch? Are you getting every time? And does it say "column lock" or just "pull key and wait 10 seconds"? The later can be a key resistor problem.
IIRC, some of those failed early on and were replaced by the vendor. Usually they didn't work right off the bat or failed shortly after installation. My CLB came from Corvette Solutions, I believe was the name, a long-defunct company. I have never heard of one of these failing.

well I will also get the pull key message from time to time but it also says service column lock. It used to just come on once in a while but now every time I start the car it comes on.
