Default New GM Alternator AMP Output...

I tried posting this earlier, but I guess it did not upload?

The dealership just replaced my alternator under warranty with this unit. Can anyone tell what the AMP output is on this?

Well since it's French, I would be more concerned about when it will quit on you rather than the output.

Not to mention the fact that they are known to give up in the presence of a BMW, Mercedes Benz, or even a lowly VW bug.

I think it is already giving me rude feedback

I'm thinking 110amp John. GM part #10316182 (as shown on the sticker)

To verify or for more info, call Bob @ Fichtner Chev. 1-800-234-5284. BTW, they are in Mountain Time Zone.

Thanks for the tip...

Well, according to Fitchner (looking at both my VIN number and the Alt Part number) they said it should be a 110 AMP. But he also said that it usually says that on the alternator and that I cannot seem to find. He said Made in France is normal.

For many years, Delco used to physically stamp the casing with the part # as well as the current rating. It seems they stopped doing this quite awhile back, maybe because of the interchangeability of cases. FWIW, RockAuto also shows that alternator as 110amp.

The Valeo brand name is a French company, and they apparently also have an assembly plant in Mexico as some have shown up here from Mexico.

Are you having a problem of some sort with it?

I don't think I am having any problems, was just reading a couple other posts that implied that 110-Amp may not really be enough. I am pretty sure that is what came on the car and it lasted 8 years - just wanted to confirm the amp rating.

My new alternator may be made in France, but my new Optima Red Top was made in Mexico - so they should cancel each other.

Unless you have done some serious loading-up on your electrical system (stereo/public address system, etc) you'll be fine.

One side benefits from a lot of the LED activity/conversions that has been the subject of a lot of posts over the last year or two is that the more LEDs that get installed, the lower the overall current drain on the electrical system too. A win-win situation when done properly.

No major loading here... been there, done that on my "custom" corvettes in the past - this is almost pure stock "electrically speaking". I do have the LED Halo tail lights, Muth Signal LED Mirrors, GM Euro Headlights w/(90watt PIAA bulbs and the Euro Heavy Duty harness and relays installed) for the past 3 years with no problems and I just installed Richard's LED Flasher harness last week to eliminate the HyperFlashing I was starting to get on my turn signals the last two months, but that is all. I also have an iPod2Car in hand, but have been reading that it puts a slight drain on the battery even with the iPod removed from the car - so I am having second thoughts about even installing that.

Check on the current drain of the iPod2Car unit if possible. I'll bet it's tiny; on the order of (low) milliamps. If in fact it stays powered up, it seems as though it requires power for an on-board memory function of some type, but even so, it should still be small. According to Crutchfield's review, when connected, your iPod powers on/off with the car. Of course a lot of people wouldn't want it (iPod) laying out in view when you're away anyway and would unplug it and put it in the glovebox, etc. Give it a whirl.
