Does anyone have directions and tools needed to change valve springs? It looks like some type of air compressor/attachment is needed to keep the valve up and a tool is needed to compress the springs. Thanks in advance
Thunder racing sells the tool and you use a compressor and compression checker with the schrader valve removed and a compressor fitting at the other end. Instructions at LS1howto.com, but their site seems to be down today. look under cam swap instructions.
As discussed in your other thread you can either use an air compressor attachment that screws into the plug hole to keep the valves up or you can position the piston to where it is at TDC to keep the valve from dropping into the cylinder. With either method you will need a valve spring compressor to remove and install the springs.
Standard valvespring bar type compressors don't work very well on these cars. That's why I recommended the Thunder racing version. It will make your life alot easier.

For the same money, the crane cams LS1 valve spring compressor does both valves at a time, as opposed to the thunder racing which only does one valve at a time. I have the crane cams valve spring compressor, and it works perfect. It makes changing springs a short job, especially when using the TDC method, because you can do two cylinders at one time.
