Default Cleaning valley cover?? (Large Pics)

I took the valley cover off my 97 to upgrade to the 02 LS6 version. I'm wanting to clean the area for the gasket so can I use gasket cleaner on a rag to wipe on the engine or should I just use a rag only with no cleaner?

I told the dealer to get me the VC gsk for an 01 and they gave me part number 12610141 (left) and my 97 and the used 02 zo6 I bought part number 12558178 are exactly the same. Do you think this will fit, I'm thinking not.

Last pic is just because I didn't know if anything was inside this part on the bottom of the VC.

Thanks for the help

Here's the Z06 VC that I used on my conversion.

My exposed valley

With the VC installed

I used a mild cleaner to prep the block for the new gasket.

Excuse my ignorance but what are the benefits of the LS6 valley cover?

Better, simpler pcv system. It also eliminates all the hoses (pipes), etc that run all around the engine that connect the driver's side/pass. valve covers.

Use carb cleaner; cover the areas you don't want to get it on with a rag. Can't help you on the gasket question.
