Default Getting codes C1286/C1225/1281 ABS light

My ABS light and service ABS warning is coming on which seems to happen when I go over a bump.

It seems some possibilities are bad speed sensor or bad BCM, could a bad hub also cause this? (I do not hear any noises, so far).

Anyone else familiar with this situation?

C1286 and C1281 indicate a problem with the steering wheel position sensor while C1225 indicates an excessive wheel speed frequency at the left front wheel. The major problem is probably the SWPS. The wheel speed problem could be intermittent.

Does your car have Active Handling (RPO JL4)?

Bill,
thanks for info, I think the answer is no on the active handling. It does not have a **** on console, just a push button for TCS on/off. It is a 99.

So would you recommend replacing the steering wheel position sensor as a starting point? (is that what the SWPS is - sorry for ignorance)

It sounds like you don't have AH but you should look at your RPO list in the glove compartment to make sure. It is RPO JL4. AH is turned on and off with that TC switch. I am not sure what appears on the 99 console but on my 03 it says Active Handling by the push button switch.

The **** you are thinking of is for the real time damping system which has nothing to do with active handling.

Before replacing the SWPS I would check it to make sure the connector is fastened correctly.
