Default Power Window Switch?

I have a 2001 conv. Today when I lowered the roof the passenger window opened but the driver side did not. From the driver control I could not activate either the driver or pass. windows. I could however open and close the pass, side with pass switch. I removed the driver side switches from the door and checked connection and all was well.
Is this possibly the fault of the switches in the driver side?

Check the wiring harness connectors in the rubber boot by the door hinge.

Then go to the next step, turn the key on, hold down the window button and slam the door closed hard several time. If that fails to work, then remove the door panel and tap on the motor housing. Good luck, I hope you get it going.

I'm still a bit confused as to why the passenger side switch will raise and lower the passenger window yet the driver side switch for the right side window does nothing.

Hi Bakersfield;
I just went out and played with it a bit more and now I find the power mirror will not accuate on the passenger side, the door lock will not function on the passenger side and the door lock on the driver side appears weak. I disconnected the ground and reconnected and checked the connections. The car starts right up and everything else appears to work ok. Any other ideas? Thanks. I can see this driving my local dealer crazy.

Hi, it sounds like your driver DDM, (Driver Door Module). Below is a diagnostic and DDM replacement instructions.

Did you perform the Door Systems Diagnostic System Check?
Go to Step 2
Go to Diagnostic System Check - Door Systems

Verify that the driver door power window inoperative fault is present.

Does the driver door power window operate normallly?
Go to Testing for Intermittent and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems
Go to Step 3

Are the power mirrors and driver door lock inoperative also?
Go to Step 6
Go to Step 4

Install a scan tool.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Observe the Driver Window Down Switch and Driver Window Up Switch parameters in the Left Door Control Module data list.
Operate the driver window switch UP and DOWN.
Does the scan tool display Active for the Driver Window Down Switch and Driver Window Up Switch parameters?
Go to Step 5
Go to Step 7

Turn OFF the ignition.
Disconnect the driver window motor.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Connect a test lamp between the power window left front up control circuit of the driver window motor and the power window left front down control circuit of the driver window motor.
Operate the driver window switch UP and DOWN.
Does the test lamp illuminate in both directions?
Go to Step 9
Go to Step 8

Test the driver door switch ground circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 15
Go to Step 10

Test the power window master switch left front signal circuits for a short to voltage or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 15

Test the power window motor left front control circuits for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Trim Panel Replacement - Door
Removal Procedure





Important
To reduce the chance of damage to the trim panel leave the switch in the panel until after the panel is removed from the door.


Lower the door window.
Remove the inside handle bezel. Refer to Handle Bezel Replacement - Inside .



Remove the pull handle plug.



Remove the screws behind the pull handle plug.




Notice
Insert the fastener removal tool between the male fastener, which is attached to the trim panel, and the female retainer, which is in the door. Incorrectly inserting the tool between the head of the female retainer and the door will break the fasteners.


For better sight access to the fasteners start by first prying out the fastener at the rear of the trim panel that is approximately 50 mm (2 in) up from the trim panel seam. Pry out the remaining trim panel fasteners working your way forward.
Lift the trim panel up off the upper retainers and reposition the panel by the door.



Remove the harness connector from the switch.
Remove the trim panel with absorber, switch, and speaker grill.
Remove any trim panel upper retainers that remained on the door.
Transfer parts as necessary.
Installation Procedure




Reinstall any loose upper retainers to the door trim panel.
Position the trim panel near the door and install the switch harness to the switch.



Install the trim panel to the top of the door engaging the upper retainers.
Align all the trim panel side and lower fasteners with the retainers in the door.



Press the trim panel firmly to the door at each fastener location.

Notice
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.


Install the screws behind the pull handle. Tighten
Tighten the pull handle screws to 6 N·m (53 lb in).





Install the pull handle plug.



Install the bezel to the handle.
Position the bezel around the inside door handle.
Push firmly on the bezel to engage the locking tabs to the door.

Disconnect the electrical connectors.
Installation Procedure




Position the door control module to the door.
Connect the electrical connectors.

Notice

I ran the scan and the following codes were seenA6-SCM -no comm
A1 RDCM no comm,AO LDCM- No comm. None will remain clear

Drivers window will not go up or down. Passenger window will not go down, It did earlier using it's switch or activating tonneu realese switch, drivers mirror adjusts, passengers will not. Driver door lock actuates weakly. Passenger does not.
I now notice that all the tire pressure indicators are blank.

You have lost communications to both door control modules. Time to check your fuses in the passenger side floor board. That week door lock actuation sounds like you have lost some power or your ground path is corroded or loose. You said you checked the connectors in the rubbe boot, but unplug them and give them a visual check. You may see corrosion or burn marks on the pins/sockets. I wish I could tell you which fuse to check but I can't right now. Give that a try, but it sounds like you may have multiple problems and it will take some time to work through it all.

The loss of tire pressure reading will probably clear up as soon as you drive the car. They don't turn on until the car is moving about 5 MPH.

I put a trickle charger on last night. This morning the driver side window went up and down three times then stopped again. I checked the pin connections, they look good with no signs. The tire sensors were back functioning this morning. I never did notice the sensors reading blank before but perhaps I wasn't looking for it. The memory button doesn't do anything either.
I checked the grounds on the front of the car and they appear tight with no sign of corrosion. Is there a ground located near the doors that these harness's would connect into that I can check?

Hi, not sure exactly what you checked, so if I repeat a few things don't take it the wrong way.
A-make sure your battery is fully charged and the battery cables are clean and tight.
B-Check fuses 30, 31, 32, 33, ip fuse block--pass footwell.
1, The accordion bellows between the door and front pillars,--pull back the rubber and check the connectors for both cleanliness and tightness,(these are splice paks 101, and 102, make sure no wire has become bare, actually take apart the connectors and look at the pins.
2, Ground 101- Left front of engine bay on frame rail--make sure no corrosion , scrape and clean.
3, Ground 102, Front of engine on frame behind the front liscense plate area--scrape and clean.
Be thorough, and take nothing for granted. You'd be surprised what a partially discharged battery and a small almost invisible bit of corrosion will do to the vettes electronics.
If these check out, it will probably be the DDM's, and possibly the pass dm.

I've become been having the exact same symptoms as jungleturbine with my 2001!

I followed the gm diagnostic procedure bestvetter posted..... the ground circuit wasn't broken and connections were clean.... so according to GM SI, I should replace the switch next.

Anyone know how to check that the door switch is really at fault (ohms b/w specific pins?)?

Pricey little switch.... I just want to make sure

Hi, basically the diagnostic has determined that the switch is bad if you performed it correctly. Below is an explanation of how the switch works. It does not send 12 volts to the windows to work, it sends a low voltage signal to the ddm which tells the module what to make the windows do. If memory serves me , one of the connectors on the dr door switch is a 2 female pin connector. If you pull that off, the corresponding pins on the switch are the Lh window up and down inputs. Using a continuity checker, between either of those pins,(check both), and a ground pin on the switch, (pin with a solid black wire connected to it), should produce continuity when the switch is pressed. If not the switch is bad.

Power Windows Description and Operation
Window Up/Down
The power window master switch left front up or down signal circuits provide inputs to the driver door module (DDM) when the driver window switch is activated. These inputs allow the DDM to detect a window UP or DOWN request from the driver door switch. The DDM provides power and ground to both of the left window switches. When the left window up switch is activated, a ground is supplied through the left window up switch to the window up input which is pulled low. When the DDM detects low voltage on the window up input, the DDM will command the driver window up. If the DDM detects low voltage on the driver window down input, the DDM will command the driver window down. If the passenger window is operated from the driver window switch, the DDM will send a message on the serial data line to the passenger door module (PDM) to operate the passenger window up or down. The passenger window operates the same as the driver window except the PDM is receiving the passenger window switch input and controlling passenger window output functions. The door modules provide both power and ground through the power window motor left front up control and power window motor left front down control circuits to the window motors. The up and down output operation is similar to one another except that the polarity of the voltage applied to the window motors is reversed.

Express Down
The driver and passenger windows have an express down feature. This feature allows the door modules to activate the driver or passenger window down without holding the window down switch for the entire duration. To activate this feature, momentarily press either window switch for one-third of a second and release. The door modules will lower the selected window completely down. The express down feature can be discontinued at any time by pressing the window switch again.

I have had to replace the drivers side door module and all glitches have cleared up, pricey little devil but really the first money I have spent on the car out of the ordinary in 7 years,
