Bought an '01 Z06 this week and I think it's been lowered. Here's a picture:
Can't see the front, but in the back there's about a 1/2" or 3/4" of thread showing on the bolts. The front wheel well is about 27" high and the rear is 28 1/2" high.
My question is, how does this effect the ride and handling? Tire wear? How can I return it to stock form and be sure that it's exactly as it was from the factory? Thanks for your help.
Why? It's not low you wanna see low check out the "show me your lowered ride thread" As far as ride and handling the handling improves since you have a lower center of gravity, Ride is questionsable since some say you feel more of teh road I didn't feel much. As far as tire wear goes you will have the same amount of tire wear if you where not lowered as long as you camber isn't out of whack. I would be more worried about that then anything.
You can restore the ride height. Do a search on the lowering procedure and reverse it then check out the Weights, Measurements sticky in the C5 Gen section for the factory specs.
Thanks for the compliments. I think it looks good - just never driven any other Corvettes so I'm not sure if this thing is riding on the bump stops and rides like crap compared to what it "should" be like.
i think you worry too much, go out and drive the car, lowered or not it is definitely not too low. if anything, drop it all the way down on stock bolts so you know its been lowered for the peace of mind, so theres no questions !

You're probably right. In the process of this, I discovered that the right side of the car is about 1/2" lower than the left.
Thanks for the help guys. I guess the most concerning thing for me at this point is that the left front is about 27" to the wheel well and the right is only 26 1/2". It also looks like the right might have lightly rubbed the fender rim at some point - although I can't say whether it happened since I've had it or not.

You are measuring at the wrong place. The bodywork on these cars is not necessariliy level and there can easly be a half inch of difference from side to side. If the previous owner had the car corner weighted it can easily be that much off. Measure ground clearance on a flat floor. (note that does not mean a typical garage, but on a truly flat floor) and see what it is.
If the ride is really harsh you probably are on the bump stops in the back. Raise it up a half an inch or so and that should cure it.
