would cutting the original intake give me around 15 horsepower, or would it be better to purchase an aftermaket intake? i want to get an intake system that would give me the most horsepower.
one more question, when installing zo6 screens, is it necessary to install the cold air screens as well.
"cutting" the original intake??? You mean port matching it? If so, I do not think you will see 15 rwhp or even 15 hp. Best bet would be to get the LS6 intake. IF you had a larger cube motor and wanted to go extreme I would say wait for the Holley alum. manifold in a couple months so you can extrude hone it. But over all the LS6 intake has proven itself to be a worthwhile addition to h/c cars.
z06 screens: no need to install the cold air screens. I just drilled holes in my oem fog lighs shrouds and it works great. I also just used velco stick-ons to secure it.
I think you're talking about air intake not manifold, right? If so, it's a toss up between BPP's Vortex, MTI's Ram Air and Halltech's Tric system. They are all cold air kits that utilize the radiator shroud. I Have seen equal gains with all three. I listed them in order of cost. :) Another real player is gonna be the VaraRam kit...we'll know more when it hits the market.
If you are talking about manifold, Intel55 has it figured.
About the "cold air" and Z06 screens. If you install the Z06 ones you can ditch the factory plastic pieces all together. This is how the Z06 comes from the factory, mesh screens only.
   opps yeah I think you might have been talking about an air intake. Any aftermarket one will pick up nice gains. Even the new 2002 Z06 intake would help. I have the Halltech TRIC intake for looks and for performance. Most perform about the same.

The ProFlow+ is also a cold air intake and it uses a K&N filter.
yeah i was talking about the air intake....i want one that would give the most horsepower...
which one is a better air intake sytem? the k&n, donaldson blackwing, vortex ram air induction system, or let me know of any other ones which are better.
west coast corvette sells a modified sock air box cover....is this any good?
